Herculaneum firefighter Jim Evans was awarded the American Legion Silver Star of Valor (along with Assistant Chief Steve Siracusa of Crystal City Fire Department) for their heroism as they successfully removed a gasoline tanker truck from a raging fire at the Crystal Tire Company. Two other Herculaneum firefighters were injured in the blaze and transported to Jefferson Memorial Hospital.
